Every radio station works hard to establish and sustain a very distinct sound and tone. This brand identity informs their house style- the manner of its presenters; the genre of music that dominates its playlists; the overall 'feel' of the station. Although each show and presenter may have their own personalty, these fall under the umbrella of the overall tone and identity of the station as a whole.

The Radio 1 audience is clearly addressed by presenters that are close to the age of their main listeners demographic of 15-29.(though Radio 1 presenters themselves will always tend to be aged towards the upper end of this age range or slightly older).   • The remit of Radio1 is to entertain ad engage a broad range of young listeners with a distinctive mix of contemporary music and speech. Its target audience is 15-29 year olds and it should also provide some programming for younger teenagers .
  • It should offer a range of new music, support and emerging artists- especially those from the UK- and provide a platform for live music. News, documentaries and advice campaigns should cover areas of relevance to young adults.
