Mojo Magazine Case Study

Explain how media language has been used to attract the target audience.

Mojo has used monochrome and red to show that the music is for an older audience 30-50s.
Older people would be drawn to monochrome because it creates a serious tone this shows this magazine is for people who are more serious about music. Younger people wouldn't be as drawn to this because its black&white and they are not as serious about music than older people because they're used to colour and it draws them in. Older people would pick it up and read it because they are more observed and serious. The colour pallet may appeal more to males than females because stereotypically males are more attracted to darker colours and red because it shows violence and power.

The monochrome colour scheme and low angle close up of the band as a main image with a reflection of them in their younger years. This would appeal to the primary audience because it give a retro bold nostalgic feel. The cover '50 greatest songs of fleetwood mac' suggests that the band has been very popular for decades and they are revered by magazines and readers.

  1. A good start - you are starting to make links between media language choices and audience appeal.

DIRT/LL: Re-structure your second sentence to link to audience more closely e.g. Older people would be drawn to the monochrome as it creates a serious tone showing this magazine if for people who are serious about music. In addition, the black and white colour scheme will appeal to older readers who remember when magazines used more black and white images. ALSO discuss why the colour pallet may appeal more to males than females.

Next, discuss other aspects of media language e.g. images, typography/lexis and layout attracts the audience.
